New Midwest All Star Sprint Series to debut in 2011 |
|
CARMARGO, Ill.(8-27-10)By Brian Liskai – The future of the O’Reilly Auto Parts Midwest All Star Sprint Series will experience an exciting change in 2011, including new tracks and an increased purse. The series, which was created three years ago by Illinois businessman Guy Webb, who owns the O’Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series and the All Star Late Model Series. For 2011, Webb is planning a 12-15 race schedule for tracks in Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia and Kentucky. The feature events will pay $2,500 to win and $225 to start. With the exciting changes a $12,000 points fund will be added to the mix. $3,000 will go to the champion and the points fund will pay back 10 positions. “We are excited to bring 410 winged sprint car racing to tracks that do not run them on a regular basis. We feel this will help grow the sport of sprint car racing in the region which will make our regular All Star series and the tracks that support us stronger,” said Webb. “The feedback we’ve gotten so far from tracks in the region is encouraging. This concept will make sprint car racing stronger as we anticipate the creation of more teams,” added Webb. Current All Star official Kyle Keesy will be the MWAS series director. Wimmer takes Bloomington Midwest All Star win |
|
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (8-20-10) By Brian Liskai – Brandon Wimmer has been very close to victory lane over the summer. The Fairmont, Indiana resident, fresh off a 17th place finish in the Knoxville Nationals, put it all together Friday to drive Rick Ferkel’s famous #0 to a win at the historic Bloomington Speedway in O’Reilly Auto Parts Midwest All Star Series competition. Wimmer quickly grabbed the lead from his pole-starting position, but the caution would fly for Adam Miller who lost power exiting turn 4. On the restart Wimmer faced a challenge from Ty Deckard, but drove to the high side of the quarter-mile bullring to regain the lead. Knoxville Nationals Rookie of the Year David Gravel was now on the move, driving from sixth to third by lap 10.Wimmer was now encountering lapped traffic and was carefully picking his way through as current Midwest All Star point leader Jerrod Hull had moved into second and was closing. A caution on lap 16 would put Hull and Gravel right on Wimmer’s rear bumper. With a clear track, Wimmer was able to open up a bit of a lead on the restart as the front trio pulled away. It would continue this way until two laps to go when Hull tried an inside move for the lead, but Wimmer was able to hold him off. As the white flag flew, Hull tried an outside pass, but once again Wimmer was up to the challenge and stormed out of turn four for the victory. “He (Hull) found the rubber first but luckily as I got into lapped traffic I found the rubber in one and two and after that I just kind of hugged the bottom and stayed in the rubber,” said Wimmer beside his Shorty’s Truck Repair, Smith’s Farms, Kear’s Speed Shop backed machine. “I could hear him coming at the end, but I wasn’t moving out of the rubber. I just had to be smooth and not make any mistakes. It’s great to finally get a win for Rick and Kathy Ferkel. I have to thank Denny Smith from Smith’s Farms, he was here helping us tonight. I have to thank Zeis Development and Shorty’s Truck Repair…without them we couldn’t do this.”“The car was great all night. We adjusted on it as the track changed. The cushion was just so big, you had to be careful not to get the car too tight or when you hit the cushion it could pull you off the track. But Rick did a great job. We’ve had just a great coupld of weeks. We made the A-main at the Knoxville Nationals and then got the win tonight. It’s exciting to win at Bloomington…I’ve been coming here since I was a little kid watching Steve Kinser and the whole Kinser family race here. It’s hard to put into words how it feels to win here,” added Wimmer. Midwest All Star Series has important weekend in Indiana |
CARMARGO, Ill. (8-15-10) By Brian Liskai - This weekend will be very important to the drivers chasing the 2010 O'Reilly Auto Parts Midwest All Star Series championship. Friday, Aug. 20 finds the series at the historical Bloomington Speedway in Bloomington, Indiana, followed by a Saturday, Aug. 21 event at Twin Cities Raceway Park.
Two-time Midwest All Star champion Jerrod Hull leads A.J. Bruns by a scant five points after two events so far in 2010. Indiana native Kody Kinser and rookie Adam Miller will look to make a move in the point standings as will third place point man Jim Moughan. Also expected to bring the exciting action of winged sprint car racing to the Hoosier State will be Cory Bruns, Jeremy Standridge, Jim Davies and Robbie Standrige.
Indiana is known primarily as the capital of non-wing sprint car racing with hundreds of teams located in the Hoosier State. With $2,000 to win on the line and $200 to start the A-main, look for many of those teams to bolt the wing on and battle the Midwest All Star drivers.
"Indiana is a key state to us as we continue to work to grow winged 410 sprint car racing in the region," said Midwest All Star President Guy Webb. "This purse structure offers many of the local racers an opportunity to race for more money and gives the fans at these fine tracks a chance to witness the speed and excitement our brand of racing has to offer."
